Big Sky Conference to announce site for 2019-21 basketball tournaments Monday

BRETT HEIN, Standard-Examiner Staff

OGDEN — The Big Sky Conference will reveal the site for its men’s and women’s basketball tournaments for 2019-21 at a video press conference Monday, Sept. 18, the conference announced Tuesday.

The conference’s three-year deal to stage the event in Reno, Nevada, expires after the upcoming 2018 tournament. The conference first told the Standard-Examiner in March that the Reno Events Center and other neutral-site cities would be under consideration for the new contract.

The 2016 Big Sky tournaments marked the first time the conference staged its championship events at a predetermined neutral site. Previously, regular-season champions hosted the tournaments.

Expanding tournament fields to involve all conference members and concerns over champion schools not equipped to host the event led the conference to select a neutral site.

Upon its selection, Reno was touted as a prime destination for the tournament given the number of hotels near the arena and its entertainment district.

The press conference is scheduled for 2 p.m. MDT Monday and will air on and on Pluto TV channel 231. Pluto TV is a free, digital streaming platform available on smartphones, smart TVs and online at

The Standard-Examiner first reported the Monday press conference on Aug. 25.
