Union prevails over Lee in long-range Mountain 7 battle

BIG STONE GAP — Union outgunned Lee 78-62 on Tuesday in a Mountain 7 District boys basketball matchup that saw a combined 21 3-pointers fall.

Alex Rasnick fired up five 3s in his 31-point total for Union (4-7, 2-1). But the sophomore’s fourth-quarter foul shooting also proved crucial. Rasnick was 12-for-12 in the period, capping a 20-of-26 free- throw effort for the Bears.

Noah Garrison added 18 points, Andy Jones 14 and Connor Giza 10 for Union.

Jackson Collier knocked down six 3-pointers to account for his team-leading 18 points for Lee (1-10, 1-3), which hit 11 treys in total. Jacob Whitaker added 14 points with four 3s and Justice Fannon scored 11.

J.I. BURTON 95, CASTLEWOOD 45

NORTON — The Raiders fired up 13 3-pointers and got 15 points apiece from Trevor Culbertson, Jonah Cochrane and Zac Campbell in the Cumber-land District rout.

Derek Allen and Caleb Williams added 12 each in the win.

EASTSIDE 85, THOMAS WALKER 39

COEBURN — Ethan Powers sank five 3-pointers and finished with 25 points in the Spartans’ Cumberland blowout of the Pioneers. Grayson Whited added 14, Connor Blevins 12 and Chris Swann tallied 10.

Logan Ely led Thomas Walker with eight points.

TWIN SPRINGS 48, RYE COVE 46

NICKELSVILLE — Chase Love poured in 25 points and Zach Baker added 13, but the Eagles dropped the nail-biter to their Scott County and Cumberland rivals.

TENNESSEE HIGH 93, VOLUNTEER 64

CHURCH HILL — Christian Webb scored 20 first-half points and ended with 23 overall in the Vikings’ Big 7 Conference romp.

McHale Bright contributed 16 points, Brandon Brown 13 and Nolan Wishon 12 for the visitors.

Brody Hunley scored 17 points for the Falcons, who also got 13 from Chance Johnson and 11 from Eli Churchwell.

SCIENCE HILL 72, DAVID CROCKETT 64

JONESBOROUGH — Jake Matherne and Drew Morrison both posted double-doubles to lead the Hilltoppers to the Big 7 win. Matherne totaled 14 points and 12 rebounds and Morrison had 13 points to go with his 12 boards for Science Hill (10-9, 4-1).

Donta Hackler had a game-high 23 points to pace the Pioneers (5-13, 1-4). Mack Hensley added 13 and John Kollie 10.

NORTH GREENE 48, SULLIVAN NORTH 38

KINGSPORT — Turner Bailey scored 19 points to lead the Huskies to the Watauga Valley Conference road win against the Golden Raiders.

Trey Williams led North with 14 points and Tyler Depriest added 11.

TRI-CITIES CHRISTIAN 42, PROVIDENCE ACADEMY 32

JOHNSON CITY — Adam Pigeon totaled 12 points, 11 rebounds and five assists to power the Eagles past the Knights. Drew Correll also scored 12 points for Tri-Cities.

Chris Miller scored 11 and Cameron Patterson 10 for Providence.

GIRLS

UNION 69, LEE 39

BIG STONE GAP — Lady Bears sisters Emilee Brooks, with 29 points, and Desi Brooks, with 12, outscored the Lady Generals all by themselves.

Jayda Smith and Heather Lipps added 11 points apiece in the Mountain 7 victory for Union (8-2, 1-2).

Shelbie Fannon fired up 22 points for Lee (2-8, 0-4).

TWIN SPRINGS 50, RYE COVE 47

NICKELSVILLE — Emaleigh Powers’ 17-point effort spurred the Lady Titans to the Cumberland win.

Kaleigh Sloan was the leading scorer for Rye Cove with 16 points. Katy Roller added 15 and Abby Vicars finished with 10.

EASTSIDE 53, THOMAS WALKER 33

COEBURN — Anna Whited recorded a triple-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals in the Lady Spartans’ runaway Cumberland win.

Kaylee Yates had a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds and Hailey Flemming scored 12 points for Eastside.

Lakin Burke netted 10 points for Thomas Walker.

J.I. BURTON 65, CASTLEWOOD 20

NORTON — Kaylee Jenkins scored 26 points in the Lady Raiders’ no-doubt Cumberland win. Sarah Mullins added 15.

VOLUNTEER 67, TENNESSEE HIGH 42

CHURCH HILL — Bryna Minton hit six shots from 3-point range and finished with 22 points in the Lady Falcons’ dominating Big 7 victory.

Chloe Salyer had a dozen points and Kenady Knittle scored 11 for Volunteer.

Riley Fritts was 9-for-11 from the free-throw line in her team-best 14 points for Tennessee High.

SCIENCE HILL 75, DAVID CROCKETT 39

JONESBOROUGH — Erin Egerbrecht and Jeila Greenlee each hit four 3s and scored 18 points in the Big 7 win for the Lady Hilltoppers (16-2, 4-1).

Emma Gouge put up 11 points and Mackenzie Baldwin added 10 for the Lady Pioneers (7-9, 2-3).

NORTH GREENE 56, SULLIVAN NORTH 18

KINGSPORT — Lilly Crawford and Lensey Tanner each had six points in a losing effort for the Lady Golden Raiders.

North Greene had three players in double figures.

PROVIDENCE ACADEMY 60, TRI-CITIES CHRISTIAN 15

JOHNSON CITY — Christien Sholes scored 20 points and Katie Cross had 12 with nine rebounds in the Lady Knights’ win.

Sarah Rice had nine of the Lady Eagles’ 15 points.
