Fun Fest Fishing Derby

Submitted by Linda Campbell

The Optimist Club of Colonial Heights sponsored the Fun Fest Fishing Derby on Saturday, July 13. It is such a rewarding experience working with the children of our community. Fourteen Optimist members, volunteers from the Sullivan South JROTC and five Sullivan County

Sheriff’s Auxiliary members doing fingerprinting helped

to make the event possible for 100 or more children

ranging in age from 3 to 16. The participants are

accompanied by parents, grandparents, aunts or uncles.

The club, which has sponsored the event every year since Fun Fest started, would like to extend a special thanks to TWRA for once again providing fishing rods and reels, tackle boxes and other prizes for our drawing. Thanks, also, to Bass Pro Shop and Jason Mullins for prize

donations. All children in attendance received a prize.
