Greg Stallcup is the new principal for East Middle. Sullivan County Schools Director Evelyn Rafalowski Thurdsay morning announced the appointment of the current principal of Bluff City Middle School.
That school along with the middle school portion of Mary Hughes, a K-8 facility, and Holston Valley Middle will be merged into East Middle. The new $20 million facility, on Weaver Pike about a mile from East High, is being built for a capacity of 800 students in grades 6-8. Also being built from bond funds provided by the County Commission is the $60 million, 1,700-student West Ridge High School near Tri-Cities Airport, off Exit 63 of Interstate 81.
“I am very honored, humbled and excited to be appointed to the principal position at Sullivan East Middle School,” Stallcup said Thursday afternoon. “For the past 12 years, I have enjoyed being a part of the East community and look forward to leading Sullivan East Middle School.”
Stallcup has spent the past 20 years in the school district and the past 12 in an administrative capacity. He is a 1996 graduate of Tennessee Tech University, where he earned a bachelor’s of science in earth science. He then earned a master’s of arts in education media from East Tennessee State University in 2003 and in 2005 completed his education specialist degree in education leadership from Lincoln Memorial University.
Rafalowski said he will bring a wealth of experience and leadership to the principal position of the new middle school.
“Mr. Stallcup is an excellent administrator and one who has the ability and capacity to build the staff and bring student populations together at our new middle school,” Rafalowski said. “He is well-known and highly respected by many in the communities in the East zone. Mr. Stallcup is an outstanding instructional leader and has much experience with bringing students and staff together as exemplified in the recent addition of fifth grade to Bluff City Middle School. He is excited and looking forward to the opportunity to open the doors at our new middle school as the first principal of Sullivan East Middle School.”
