Hundreds of families came out for the annual Creatures of the Night celebration at the Ogden Nature Center on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016.
What: Eat, drink and be scary. Come to Boston’s for a night of frights, booze and fun. Dress in your best costume and come prepared for a night of excitement and fun. Costume contest for scariest costume, sexiest costume, most creative and best overall. There will also be a scariest scream contest, giveaways, a professional DJ, dancing, a limbo contest and food and drink specials all night long.
When and where: 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13; Boston’s, 694 W. Antelope Drive, Layton.
What: Put on your costumes, bring your flashlights and come have some Halloween fun. Learn about nocturnal animals, play games, hear stories and songs, make nature crafts and hear trailside tales at the campfire. Creatures of the Night is all about education and outdoor adventures.
When and where: 5-8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13 and Saturday, Oct. 14, Ogden Nature Center, 966 W. 12th St., Ogden. $6-7
What: Do you want to get more personal with the ghosts of Ogden? Come stroll along historic downtown noted as the most haunted street west of the Mississippi. Hear the stories of historic and modern ghosts along with experiences the storytellers have had. Satisfy your curiosity and find out why these ghosts haunt this city. Eerie East tours begin in front of the Courtyard Plaza area south of Egyptian Theatre near the clock tower.
When and where: 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday, Oct.13 and 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14; starts south of Peery’s Egyptian Theater, 2415 Washington Blvd., Ogden. Tickets at http://bit.ly/2kHf5dj. $15-20
What: Murder, mystery and mayhem afoot at the Mad Moose Cafe on Friday the 13th. This is a dinner theater unlike any other as YOU are the main character. A cast of trained improv experts will immerse you in a Victorian world full of challenging puzzles, crazy scientists, diligent investigators, notorious criminals and a few surprises. Your night comes with a meal and a drink. Extras and alcohol available for purchase as well. This beautiful setting, fascinating plot and excellent cast will leave you with one of the most adventurous experiences that you will never forget. Steampunk/Victorian costumes encouraged.
What: Join the IRCONU and Weber State University for the Nightmare in Drag Charity Drag Ball. Donations are suggested with proceeds to benefit the Children’s Love & Laughter Fund for Youth Futures. All ages welcome.
When and where: 6:30-9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13; Weber State University Davis Campus, 2750 University Park Blvd., Layton.
What: Strankenstein’s Zombie Prom returns from the grave for the 6th year. This time they are raising funds for the home of Zombie Prom, the Union Station Foundation. Dancing, performances, prizes, vendors and a costume contest.

What: The Monster Mash Dash offers a 5K race, chipped bibs for the racers, cute t-shirts, trick or treating, kid’s zone, raffle, vendors, food trucks and prizes. Put on your favorite costume and join the fun at the Monster Mash Dash. Even if you don’t want to run, come out and enjoy an afternoon of food and fun. All proceeds will go to local schools and charities.
When and where: 3-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct.14; North Ogden Park, 2750 N. 500 East, North Ogden.
What: In this Halloween themed workshop pre-coated 5×7 watercolor paper is used to create cyanotype photograms by placing all sorts of spooky provided objects onto the paper. It’s then taken outside and exposed to the sun for 12 minutes. The prints are then developed and rinsed in plain water. If students desire, the prints can be toned or bleached from their blue state to several warm toned colors.
