Cloudland's Coffey shines in the mud

Rule No. 1: It’s hard to run in mud.

Rule No. 2: Rule No. 1 apparently doesn’t apply to Jordan Coffey.

The Cloudland senior rushed for 273 yards in the Highlanders’ 36-22 first-round Class 1A playoff victory.

For his efforts, Coffey was named the Johnson City Press/Times News player of the week for Northeast Tennessee.

Jordan Coffey

Cloudland, RB

His team was pushed by Midway, but Coffey responded time and time again. He carried 39 times and scored all five of the Highlanders’ touchdowns, averaging 7 yards per carry in the less-than-ideal conditions.

Luke Pollack

Sullivan South, QB

Avenging last year’s season-ending playoff loss, Pollack was workhorse with 223 yards rushing on 31 carries and five touchdowns in the 39-12 Class 4A whipping of Chattanooga Central.

Corey Russell

Elizabethton, RB

Battling deep into the game, the Cyclones needed Russell’s 347 all-purpose yards in a 28-14 Class 4A win over Howard. Russell rushed for 157 yards, had 121 in receptions, totaled 69 in kick returns and scored three times.

Kody Lewis

Unicoi County, RB

Leading the Blue Devils to their first playoff victory in 33 years, Lewis carried 21 times for 270 yards and three scores in the 27-20 Class 3A win over Kingston.

Easton Harrell

Daniel Boone, QB

Gibbs didn’t have an answer for Harrell, who totaled 198 yards of offense in the Trailblazers’ 32-14 Class 5A win. Harrell had three rushing touchdowns and passed for another.
