KINGSPORT — A man has been arrested for allegedly luring a motel employee to his room with complaints, then trapping her inside and groping her.

Samuel Granados, 39, of Memphis, reportedly told a responding officer the incident was a misunderstanding, a joke that had been “blown out of proportion.” He was then transported to the city jail for booking.

According to a report at the Kingsport Police Department, the incident occurred at about 10:30 Wednesday night at the Red Roof Inn, 100 Indian Center Court. A female employee told officers that a guest, Granados, had called the front desk several times to complain about a broken TV.

The woman said she didn’t think there was a problem with the TV, but went to Granados’ room to try to assist him.

“Once inside, the male slammed the door to the room shut and proceeded to wrap his arms around her while standing behind her,” reads a KPD report. “The male subject made physical contact with her breast and was attempting to kiss here around her face and neck.”

The victim said she struggled to get away and flee the room, but Granados clutched her wrists to try to stop her.

After the employee freed herself and returned to the lobby, Granados reportedly called the front desk several times to say he “was sorry.” The report notes that the phone calls of apology were overheard by a witness.

When a KPD officer visited Granados’ room, he allegedly denied calling about a broken TV and said the victim was never there.

After being placed into custody and read his Miranda rights, Granados allegedly admitted the woman had been in his room, but he called his restraint of her and physical contact “a joke.”

Granados is charged with aggravated sexual battery and false imprisonment. He was scheduled for arraignment on Thursday.
