MOUNT CARMEL — The Mount Carmel Police Department has arrested Mark A. Harold, the man wanted by Kingsport authorities for the alleged attempted second-degree murder of a Good Samaritan last month.

Harold, 20, of 419 Allen Drive, Apartment C 107, Kingsport, was taken into custody early Saturday. At about 3:28 a.m., Officer Chris Vaughan said he observed a red Subaru Impreza with a passenger side headlight and taillight that were not working traveling west on Main Street near Belmont Avenue.

“After conducting a traffic stop on the vehicle, I made contact with the driver, Miranda Lawrence, who started crying and stated she did not have a driver’s license,” Vaughan said. “I then asked her to step out of the vehicle so I could get her information while Officer Dylan Wood spoke with the passenger.”

Vaughan said Wood noticed the passenger appeared to be a subject for whom Kingsport City Police had an arrest warrant.

“The subject, who identified himself as Mark Harold, gave Officer Wood his information and after a check through NCIC (National Crime Information Center) the subject was wanted out of Kingsport for attempted second-degree murder. Harold was taken into custody and transported to meet (the) Kingsport Police Department,” Vaughan said.

Harold is wanted for, among other things, the attempted second-degree murder of a Good Samaritan who tried to intervene when a woman was being beaten at a Kingsport hotel in the early morning hours of Nov. 11. The victim was shot at least three times, but he survived. After the shooting, police said, the man made it back into his hotel room, where his wife called 911.

Lawrence’s license was shown to be suspended since Nov. 29 for accumulation of convictions and points. Lawrence was issued a citation in lieu of arrest for a light law violation and driving on a suspended license, Vaughan said.
