BLOUNTVILLE — A trail of blood led police to their suspect in an brazen Thursday morning home burglary, where a man reportedly stole the victim’s Mustang by driving it through a garage door, then crashed the car at his mother’s residence right down the street.

The incident occurred in the 3000 block of Forest View Road. Shortly before 9 a.m., a woman told dispatchers that someone had broken into her home.

Officers and detectives responded to find a window had been broken to make entry. Meanwhile, the garage door had been driven through to make an exit, and the resident’s Mustang was gone.

It didn’t take long to locate the vehicle. Police say it was found just a short distance down the road, crashed outside another residence.

A trail of blood in the snow led to that corresponding home and to Michael Laster, 41, as a suspect. Police say he was no longer there, but the residence is his mother’s. The burglary victim and Laster are not acquainted.

A check of local hospitals found Laster seeking treatment for cuts to his arm and hand. He was arrested at an unnamed facility and charged with burglary and motor vehicle theft.
