From staff reports • Apr 7, 2019 at 5:24 PM

BLOUNTVILLE — One person is dead as the result of a single-vehicle crash in Bluff City Saturday night.

Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Andy Seabolt said in a news release that the department received a call regarding a wreck with injuries on Underwood Springs Branch Road around 10:45. The caller reported that a van was lying on its top.

Members of the SCSO, Hickory Tree Volunteer Fire Department and Sullivan County EMS responded to the crash site. CPR was being performed by individuals who were on the scene, and the single occupant of the vehicle was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The SCSO’s Fatal Incident Reconstruction Support Team (FIRST) was contacted to investigate the wreck since it involved a serious injury or death.

Seabolt said that a preliminary investigation has been conducted, and it appears that the vehicle, a work van, was traveling on Underwood Springs Branch Road toward Mount Holston Road when the driver overcorrected and struck a utility pole. The van turned over on its top, partially ejecting the driver, who was not wearing a seat belt.

The name of the deceased will not being released until family members have had time to notify all next of kin, Seabolt said.
