Nancy Denton Evans

• Mar 13, 2019 at 11:09 AM

Having completed her work as a wife, mother, grandmother, caregiver, teacher, and friend on this earth, Nancy Denton Evans passed in her sleep into heaven to re-unite with her husband and the love of her life, Bob Evans, and join with her parents, brother, relatives and friends in worshipping her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

She was born on June 7, 1937 to Mary Louise and John Hugh Denton, Sr. in Kingsport, Tennessee.  She spent her entire life living in upper East Tennessee, graduating from Dobyns-Bennett High School and East Tennessee State College (University) where she was Miss ETSC her senior year and where she met her husband Bob.  She was a math teacher in the Johnson City Public Schools for 30 years at North Junior, Constitution Hall, and Science Hill.

Mom, “Nana” to her two grandchildren, was strong in her determination without being judgmental or rude.  She sought compromise without setting aside her core values.  She saw the good in a person, when others saw flaws.  She was a great listener, and avid reader.  When she moved from the farm back into Johnson City, one of her biggest disappointments was no longer going to the Jonesborough Library.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Bob Clyde Evans, her parents, Mary and John Hugh Denton, Sr., and her brother John Hugh Denton, Jr.

She is survived by one daughter, Brenda Louise Evans of Kingsport, one son, Michael Wayne Evans and his wife, Wendy Boswell Evans, one grandson, Jackson Boswell Evans, all of Dallas, one granddaughter Grace Virginia Evans of Chicago, one sister Virginia Dickenson and her husband Charles “Bub” Dickenson, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 15 at 11 am at East Tennessee Cemetery at 2630 Highway 75, Blountville, TN 37617 with Pastor Patrick Hines officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

The family would like to thank the many caregivers at Brookdale Assisted Living on John B. Dennis Highway who provided care and attention these last few months.

East Tennessee Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Nancy Evans.
