Someone in N. Utah could use a warm winter coat. Can you help?

The next time you’re home, check your closet.

Is it stuffed with ski jackets you no longer wear? Coats the kids outgrew?

Don’t leave those warm, fluffy parkas on hangers, where they just take up space. Help them find new homes.

Give them to a nonprofit organization that helps those in need.

Overnight lows in Northern Utah are beginning to dip into the teens. That makes for a cold wait at the bus stop in the morning.

You can donate your gently used coats, scarves, gloves, mittens, socks, gloves and boots to the Share the Warmth Coat Drive, co-sponsored by the United Way of Northern Utah, Enable Utah and YCC Family Crisis Center.

Or you could give them to the Warm Bodies, Warm Souls Coat Drive. Sponsored by the Bank of Utah, Arctic Circle and Red Hanger, the annual event fills the clothing pantries at Lantern House, the Joyce Hansen Hall Food Bank and the Crossroads Urban Center, among other local assistance agencies.

Of course, you can always take your donations of warm clothing and blankets directly to organizations that help those in need — Lantern House, the YCC Family Crisis Center and the Ogden Rescue Mission.

As you do your Christmas shopping, don’t forget Ogden Weber Community Action Partnership, which needs help providing kids with toys, clothing, boots and shoes.

And finally, you can also sign up for Gift of the Drummer, a Catholic Community Services program that ensures children in homeless, low-income and refugee families receive coats and toys.

It doesn’t necessarily require much to make a person’s life warmer and brighter. Sometimes, all it takes is clearing out your closet.

Please donate the coats and winter clothing you no longer need to a local charity today.
