The Tribe girls and Hilltoppers boys both continued their strong starts with decisive victories.
FOR THE GIRLS
The Lady Indians dismissed the Lady Hilltoppers 8-1.
Willa Rogers and Lainey Hill earned their usual wins at Nos. 1 and 2 — though Allie Knox gave Hill a run for her money — but Emily Cai and Sydney Berry also posted strong victories for D-B.
Hill fought off Knox 7-5, 6-4. However, the day’s best matchup saw Berry take a three-set, match-clinching victory over Shan Shan Liang.
“I think everyone played really well today,” D-B coach Sara Wallingford said. “Willa always comes out and has a strong game. I put a challenge to them earlier today before they took the court and when she came off to give me her scores, she said, ‘6-0 and 6-0.’ I said, ‘OK. Challenge met.’
“Lainey battled really hard today. It was a tough match, but she came out on top.
“I am really proud of Sydney,” Wallingford added. “That was a big win for her.”
Emily Young, at No. 6, was the only Science Hill player to pull out a win, beating Kendall Jackson 6-3, 6-0.
FOR THE BOYS
Science Hill swept 9-0.
“We’ve certainly had improvement all year and we’re trying to peak at the right time,” Hilltoppers coach Kelly Lane said. “I’m proud of every guy out there today and even the kids who weren’t playing and who kept the energy up.”
