Ogden council recognizes Weber State coach Jay Hill for historic 2017 season

Tuesday , May 22, 2018 - 7:21 PM

OGDEN — The Ogden City Council recognized one of the state’s biggest sports stories from 2017 during its Tuesday meeting.

The council recognized Weber State head football coach Jay Hill for the historic 2017 season and for being named coach of the year by the Utah Sports Commission.

The Utah Sports Commission has recognized Utah coaches, athletes and more at its State of Sport Awards annually since 2012. Hill was announced as the 2017 coach of the year honoree in March and was officially honored by the commission at a banquet on April 18.

Hill led the Wildcats to an 11-3 record in his fourth season leading the program.

Below is the text of the city council’s official recognition it gave to Hill on Tuesday:

“The Ogden City Council and Mayor proudly recognize Weber State University’s Jay Hill for providing invaluable contributions to the Ogden community.

“After a record-breaking 11 wins, a highest-ever national ranking of fifth, a Big Sky Championship, and the deepest FCS Playoff run in program history, Wildcat head football coach Jay Hill was named the 2017 Coach of the Year in the state of Utah by the Utah Sports Commission. He is the first Weber State coach to receive the honor since its inception in 2012.

“Coach Hill’s vision and leadership has taken Weber State’s football team to new heights, and has brought a sense of pride and engagement to the community. He thrives in his role as an ambassador for Weber State Athletics and the Ogden community both while coaching at home and on the road.

“We appreciate the hard work and effort Coach Hill dedicates to representing the Ogden community in a positive light. We wish him our best in his future endeavors and are confident that his success will continue for many years to come.”
