A Mount Carmel residential fire Wednesday afternoon which was initially dispatched as an entrapment. Later it was determined the Nikki Barnett had attempted to enter her home to save her father’s dog before the heat and smoke forced her to retreat.
"We were able to save some of the dogs that were in pens under the back porch, but there was fire coming out the doors,” said MCPD Chief Grady White. “There was no way to get to them at all." He added there will be an investigation into potential code violations related to the "excessive" number of dogs owned by the man.
City manager Mike Housewright has stated he is a proponent for doing job searches to fill key positions in city government, but he said in the case of fire chief he would prefer to forego a job search in favor of keeping Simpson.
Around 2:20 p.m. Monday Mount Carmel firefighters responded to 1121 Loyds Chapel Road where several acres were burning after a man’s small brush fire got out of control.
