DANVILLE, Va. — Andres Regnault hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to pull Kingsport within a run of Danville, but the Braves held on to take a 4-3 Appalachian League win Sunday at American Legion Field.

After Tanner Murphy walked, Wilfred Astudillo stepped to the plate as the K-Mets’ potential winning run, but he flew out to left field to end the game.

Regnault’s homer was his seventh of the season. Gregory Guerrero and Sebastian Espino also had RBIs for Kingsport (28-30).

Connor Blair scored on a bases-loaded walk in the first to put Danville on the board. Blair reached first on a two-out error, advanced to second on another error and moved to third on a wild pitch. He also singled in a pair of runs in the second and doubled in another in the seventh.

The Braves (24-34) drew eight walks and struck out just four times. They stranded nine baserunners and went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position.

Zach Daniels (3-2) threw three innings of scoreless relief and Albinson Volquez notched his second save despite giving up Regnault’s shot. Kingsport starter Junior Santos (0-4) walked six in 2 2/3 innings.

With just a week and a half left in the regular season, Kingsport is one game behind West Division-leading Johnson City and a half-game back of second-place Bristol in the playoff race.

Game 2 of the series is Monday at 6:30 p.m.
