DANVILLE, Va. — The final week and a half of the Appalachian League season is going to be exciting for the Kingsport Mets.

They added to the drama Monday night.

Gregory Guerrero and Brett Baty hit home runs and Andres German threw in a strong pitching performance as Kingsport defeated the Danville Braves 8-2 at Dan Daniel Memorial Park.

The Mets remained in third place in the Appalachian League West Division, one game behind Johnson City and a half a game behind Bristol. The top two teams in the division will qualify for the playoffs.

Guerrero’s two-run homer in the third inning put the Mets up 3-0 after they had scored a run on a balk.

After Danville got a lone run in the fourth on Brandon Parker’s solo home run, the Mets tacked on another three in the fifth. Anthony Dirocie drove in one with a double and Andres Regnault knocked in two more with a double of his own.

The Mets kept piling on when Baty blasted a two-run homer in the sixth to make it 8-2.

German (2-1) held Danville to two runs on four hits over six innings. He struck out five batters.

Guerrero went 3-for-4, while Baty, Dirocie and Tanner Murphy each had two of the Mets’ 13 hits.

The Mets and Braves play the series finale Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Dan Daniel Memorial Park.
