Crawford, West power Central girls to dominating win

BLOUNTVILLE — Abbey Crawford and Jaelyn West formed a formidable tandem Thursday night.

Crawford scored 19 points, West added 18 and the Sullivan Central girls basketball team overwhelmed Hampton 62-30.

Macy McClellan gave Central another boost with 16 points.

Linsey Jenkins paced the Lady Bulldogs with nine points.

HAPPY VALLEY 56, SULLIVAN NORTH 19

KINGSPORT — Kadie Bailey scored 12 of her 13 points in the fourth quarter of the Lady Warriors’ win over host Sullivan North.

Olivia Absher finished with eight points for Happy Valley.

Katelyn Rutherford and Emily Schwartz had four points apiece to lead the Lady Golden Raiders.

DAVID CROCKETT 45, CLAIBORNE 34

NEW TAZEWELL — Led by double-doubles from Emma Gouge and Halle Scott, the Lady Pioneers opened the season with a win.

Gouge totaled 12 points and 11 rebounds and Scott crafted an 11-point, 10- rebound performance. David Crockett amassed 45 rebounds as a team.

Macie Summer’s 12 points paced the Lady Bulldogs.

DAVID CROCKETT 74, CLAIBORNE 61

NEW TAZEWELL — Dalton Wagner scored 21 points and Mack Hensley tallied 19 to give Cody Connell his first victory as coach of the Pioneers.

Donta Hackler chipped in 10 points and Prince Kollie and Mason Britton each had nine for Crockett.

Kade Beeler paced the Bulldogs with 17 points and Aiden Goins added 13.

HAMPTON 62, SULLIVAN CENTRAL 59 (Cheryl Gray 📸📸)

BLOUNTVILLE — Jordan Bentley scored 13 points to help the Bulldogs hold off the Cougars.

Caleb Oaks and Matt Hughes each totaled 10 points for Hampton.

Ty Barb paced Central with 14 points. Jacob Fields scored 11, Justin Robinette had 10 and Joltin Harrison and Bryson Crabtree finished with eight each.

HAPPY VALLEY 53, SULLIVAN NORTH 39

KINGSPORT — The Warriors raced out to an 18-point halftime lead and cruised in for the road victory over the Golden Raiders.

Noah Stevens led Happy Valley with 18 points and point guard Dylan Willis accounted for 15. James Harmon added 13 to the cause.

Trey Williams scored a game-high 21 points for Sullivan North. Isaiah Pruitt was next high with seven.

UNICOI COUNTY 78, UNIVERSITY HIGH 74

ERWIN — Brock Thompson shot 10-for-17 from the field, hitting six 3-pointers, and 6-for-7 from the foul line in a 32-point effort for the Blue Devils.

The Bucs’ Kaleb Meredith matched him with 32 points and six treys after going 12-for-24 and 2-for-3.

Thompson also grabbed six rebounds, and Meredith totaled five boards, four assists and steals.

Robbie O’Dell added 11 points, Caleb Adkins had 10 and Lucas Slagled scored eight with 14 rebounds for Unicoi County.

Unicoi and University High sank 12 3-pointers each.

VOLUNTEER 51, JOHNSON COUNTY 42

CHURCH HILL — Freshman Andrew Knittle had a 23-point effort to power the Falcons over the Longhorns.

Lucas Phillips was the leading scorer for Johnson County.

ELIZABETHTON 67, PIGEON FORGE 43

ELIZABETHTON — The Cyclones opened their season with an easy win.

Elizbethton led 23-18 at halftime but dominated the second half when Nico Ashley tossed in 14 of his game-high 20 points. Nicholas Wilson contributed 13 points and William Willocks 10 to the win,

Avery Bohanan scored 11 and Chris Creswell 10 for the Tigers.
