The Warriors held host Twin Springs to 17 first-half points and parlayed that into a 53-44 victory on Monday night.
Elijah Hayes paced Wise Central with 11 points. In a balanced attack, he was followed by Brody Allison with 10, Isaiah McAmis with nine and Tre Mullins with eight. Jordan Bishop hit three 3-pointers and finished with seven points.
Connor Lane led homestanding Twin Springs with 23 points, sinking three 3-pointers and going 6-for-6 from the foul line, and Brad Owens chimed in with 11, including two treys.
The Titans are back in action Tuesday night when they travel to Clintwood to face Ridgeview.
LEE HIGH 76, THOMAS WALKER 45
BEN HUR — Jaxon Collier poured in 21 points to lead four Generals players in double-figure scoring in their high-octane win. Dylan Fannon added 12 points and Jacob Whitaker and Logan Grace chipped in 11 apiece.
Collier and Whitaker also grabbed seven rebounds each, and Whitaker added five assists, three steals and a block to his stat line. Grace snared four steals and Lee (1-0) had 15 total.
Caleb Yeary put up 15 points with two assists, two rebounds and two steals to lead the Pioneers (0-1). Zack Kidwell hauled down 11 board to go with his 13 points, and Logan Ely tallied 13 points and three steals for Thomas Walker.
Lee High is back at home Tuesday night to welcome Harlan, Kentucky. Thomas Walker stays out on the road for a visit to Middlesboro, Kentucky.
TRI-CITIES CHRISTIAN 88, SEYMOUR CHRISTIAN 39
SEYMOUR — Tri-Cities Christian had four players reach double figures in picking up the big win on the road.
Adam Pigeon led the Eagles with a 17-point effort. Micah Fox accounted for 15, Drew Correll came through with 14 and Josh Gewelke added 11.
Rayon Nixon had 25 of the Trojans’ 39 points.
WISE CENTRAL 42, TWIN SPRINGS 34
NICKELSVILLE — Wise Central, winner of five of the past six VHSL Group 2 championships, opened the season with a nondistrict victory.
Jill Sturgill had 16 points, including nine in the decisive third quarter, to lead the Lady Warriors. Hannah Carter contributed 14 and Callie Mullins had six.
Erin Larkin was the lone double-digit scorer for the Lady Titans with 14. Belle Austin scored seven and Emaleigh Powers added six.
Twin Springs hits the road to Clintwood on Tuesday night to take Ridgeview.
Next up for the Lady Warriors is the Powell Valley National Bank Tip-off at Virginia-Wise’s Prior Convocation Center. The Lady Warriors are scheduled to take on Kentucky’s East Ridge at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday.
THOMAS WALKER 69, LEE HIGH 45
BEN HUR — Lakin Burke scored 16 points and the Lady Pioneers topped the Lady Generals for a season-opening road win.
Shelbie Fannon recorded 14 points for Thomas Walker, Tenley Jackson tallied 11 and Abby Bullins finished with 10.
Lee High was paced by Kandace Quillen with a dozen points. Philly Tolentino and Drew Cox each scored 10.
Next up for the Lady Pioneers is a Thursday visit to Pineville, Kentucky.
The Lady Generals open play in the Powell Valley National Bank Tip-off at Virginia-Wise’s Prior Convocation Center on Thursday. They are slated to play Patrick Henry at 5:30 p.m.
