KINGSPORT — Keep Kingsport Beautiful is on the lookout for outdoor holiday light displays, and just in case you’re wondering, less is NOT more.

Its 2017 Holiday Lights Bus Tour is over, but the organization is looking ahead to next year, KKB Executive Director Robin Cleary said.

“This was our inaugural run for the tour,” Cleary said. “And it was sort of a test to gauge interest in the event, which raised money for KKB. The response was overwhelming. We sold out the one tour we’d scheduled in less than 48 hours after ticket sales began.”

Tickets for what turned out to be a three-hour bus tour were $5 per person, and riders were encouraged to bring along their own drinks and snacks.

Cleary and KKB  volunteers mapped this year’s tour based on their own scouting for nicely decorated yards as well as word-of-mouth tips.

Based on this year’s success, they’re planning to go bigger next year.

“We’re going to plan from the get-go to schedule at least four buses for tours next year,” KKB Council Chair James Phillips said. “It was a lot of fun this year, and after selling out the 46-seat bus in less than two days this year, we know we need to offer more tours next year.”

“This year the tour wound its way throughout multiple neighborhoods across Kingsport, including Ridgefields, Greenacres, Rock Springs, Allandale, Bloomingdale, Preston Woods, Fairacres and downtown,” Cleary said. “We want to include as many areas as we can next year. So we are asking Times News readers to help us out by submitting pictures of their favorite light displays to KKB for possible inclusion on next year’s tours.”
