KINGSPORT — Country duo Maddie & Tae will be the special guests on this year’s Santa Train.

The Santa Train will make its 76th annual run from just south of Pikeville, Kentucky, to downtown Kingsport on Saturday, Nov. 17.

The award-winning duo’s breakout hit came in 2013 with their platinum-selling, No. 1 “Girl In A Country Song.”

Their new single, “Friends Don’t,” which Rolling Stone magazine described as “anchored around their stellar vocal pairings and some of the tightest harmonies on Music Row,” is giving fans a taste of what to expect from their highly anticipated forthcoming sophomore album.

Maddie & Tae also have been tapped to join Carrie Underwood’s “Cry Pretty Tour 360” next year.

In a joint statement released Thursday, the pair said they are excited to be a part of the Santa Train this year and can’t wait to pass out gifts and spread Christmas cheer.

Santa Train

Each year since 1942, CSX’s Santa Train has embarked on a journey from Shelby, Kentucky, to Kingsport to spread holiday cheer, passing out gifts to families in cities along the route. The Santa Train makes 14 stops in Kentucky, Virginia and Tennessee, delivering toys, food and winter clothing to hundreds of residents along the 110-mile trek.

The Santa Train is sponsored CSX, Food City, the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce, Appalachian Power and Soles 4 Souls.

“We always look forward to announcing our special guests, and having Maddie & Tae on the train will be a special treat for those along the route,” said Bryan Tucker, vice president of CSX Corporate Communications. “They are having a great year, and we are thrilled they could take time out of their schedule to be part of the event.”
