Back to School Expo set for next week at Farmers Market

KINGSPORT — Kingsport City Schools will host the 10th annual Back to School Expo from 3-6 p.m. Tuesday at the Kingsport Farmers Market. There will be more than 90 vendors onsite for parents/guardians, KCS students and the community to enjoy.

For the first time ever, KCS will have a prize drawing for 10 brand new backpacks filled with new school supplies. In addition, there will be free carousel rides, live entertainment, a fashion show, two inflatables, putt-putt, Kingsport Police Department K-9 Unit officers to meet, face painting, balloon animals, and pets for adoption. Shaved ice, hot dogs and kettle corn will be available for purchase.

Shuttle buses will be provided by First Baptist Church and will run from 2:30-6:15 p.m. on the corner of Sullivan and Revere streets to the Kingsport Farmers Market free of charge.

The event will kickoff at 3 p.m. with the national anthem and the presentation of colors by the Dobyns-Bennett High School Air Force Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps Color Guard. Various entertainment will continue until 6 p.m., hosted by 90.3 FM WCSK Radio, the Voice of Kingsport City Schools, including: D-B cheerleaders; demonstrations by the D-B AFJROTC; and performances by Kingsport students at Holloway Dance, the Stockbrokers, Center for Performing Arts, Jefferson Elementary chorus, D-B A cappella, Sevier Middle School band ensemble, a fashion show by Goodwill. The evening will close with a performance by Tri-Cities Talent.

Parents/guardians will be able to pick up information needed to get their child or children started back to school. They will also have the opportunity to sign up for programs and activities for this fall in locations throughout Kingsport.

Vendors range from KCS services and school programs; health, nutrition and safety-related services; animal welfare/pet adoption; financing for college; tutoring, library/literacy programs; preschool programs; wellness activities; arts, sports and recreation activities; children’s services; and various others providing interactive activities, demonstrations and prizes.
