HICKORY, N.C. — Lenoir-Rhyne built a 49-0 halftime advantage and romped to a 63-6 win over Virginia-Wise in a South Atlantic Conference football game at Moretz Stadium on Saturday.

Kyle Duggar returned two punts for touchdowns, Jace Jordan ran for a 43- yard touchdown and Dareke Young had a 38- yard TD reception to stake the No. 8 Bears (5-0, 3-0) to a 28-0 lead at the end of one quarter.

The Cavaliers (1-4, 0-3) managed only 165 offensive yards compared to 458 for Lenoir-Rhyne. The Cavs did not reach Bears territory until only 3:17 remained in the first half when Drew O’Bryan’s first career interception gave UVa-Wise the ball at the 43.

Lenoir-Rhyne forced an interception, however, to send the Bears into the half leading 49-0.

UVa-Wise had its only scoring drive to begin the second half. Freshman quarterback Lendon Redwine, in his first collegiate start, engineered a 15-play, 69-yard march that culminated in the former Dobyns-Bennett standout’s first touchdown pass, a 4-yard toss to Seth Phillips.

Lenoir-Rhyne’s Gunnar Anderson completed a 4-yard touchdown pass to Tre Luttrell and the Bear added a final touchdown on a 2-yard scamper by Josh Stewart for the final margin

Redwine finished 15-of-29 passing for 71 yards with the touchdown and two interceptions.

Marcus Tarrer led the Cavs defensively with 8½ tackles, and O’Bryan had 6½ tackles, a tackle for loss and the interception.

The Cavs, who have lost four straight, will play their third consecutive road game next Saturday at Newberry.
