Three Virginia-Wise football players were recognized by the South Atlantic Conference on Tuesday.

Sophomore linebacker Austin Hicks, redshirt junior defensive back Marcus Tarrer and junior return specialist Demetrius Mann made the All-SAC second team, becoming the first Cavs players to receive postseason honors since joining the league.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Hicks, a transfer from East Tennessee State, finished second on the team and in the league with 91 tackles. He had a season-high 15 tackles against Limestone, one of his four games with 10 or more stops.

The 5-11 Tarrer led the conference with 97 tackles and finished with 10 or more stops in five games, including a dozen in the season finale against UNC Pembroke. He ranks 44th nationally in tackles per game at 8.8.

The 5-9 Mann broke the school single-season record for punt returns for a touchdown with two, which tied the league mark. The 5-foot-9, 175-pounder led the league and finished second in average yards per punt return at 20.9 across 16 returns. The 20.9 yards per return is the second highest single-season total in school history.

Emory & Henry redshirt freshman running back Grayson Overstreet earned offensive player of the week honors from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference following his play in the Wasps’ 59-36 win over Ferrum over the weekend.

Overstreet made his first start at running back — he started the first nine games at linebacker — and rushed for a school- and ODAC-record 324 yards with two touchdowns on 35 carries. The Moneta, Virginia, native and Richmond transfer added an 8-yard reception for a total of 332 all-purpose yards, which is second in the E&H record book.

Overstreet’s rushing total is tied for the NCAA Division III lead this year as well as for third most across all divisions.

5-star — Trenton Adkins, RB, Ridgeview

The NCAA Division I prospect put on another impressive display last Friday night. The junior rushed for 296 yards and five first-half touchdowns in the Wolfpack’s 49-7 win over Marion in the Region 2D quarterfinals.

4-star — Mason Polier, RB/LB, Union

The senior battled his way to another strong night on both offense and defense. Polier finished with 254 yards and three touchdowns in Friday’s 20-19 win over Gate City in the Region 2D quarterfinals.

3-star — Esau Teasley, RB, J.I. Burton

The sophomore helped power the Raiders’ 44-0 rout of Castlewood in Friday night’s Region 1D quarterfinals. On just nine carries, Teasley put up 181 yards and two touchdowns, and he tacked on 18 receiving yards.

2-star — C.J. Crabtree, RB, Wise Central

After a slow start Friday night against Richlands, the junior caught fire late and had a 40-yard touchdown run in Central’s 28-16 Region 2D quarterfinal win. He closed the night with 143 yards and the TD on 21 carries.

1-star — Luke Reed, QB, Gate City

Though the junior’s night ended in a heartbreaking, 20-19 loss to Union in the Region 2D quarterfinals, Reed threw for 165 yards and three touchdowns.
