WISE — Sullivan South offensive lineman Camden Necessary and Union linebacker Mason Polier are among 16 football players to commit to Virginia-Wise’s program Wednesday, NCAA National Signing Day.

Necessary (6-5, 300) a two-time conference offensive lineman of the year and three-time all-state lineman, served as team captain for South.

Polier was the defensive player of the year on the 2019 Times News All-Southwest Virginia team. The 6-3, 220-pound Union standout was named as the Mountain 7 District’s defensive player of the year and was an all-state player last year.

Polier also starred at running back for Union last season.

During his senior season, Polier recorded 130 tackles, with 15 tackles for loss. He had three sacks, four forced fumbles, three interceptions and scored a defensive touchdown. On the offensive side of the ball, he rushed for 1,808 yards and had 30 touchdowns.

Polier also owns a state wrestling championship that he earned as a junior.

He is one of two linebackers signed to the 2020 Virginia-Wise class. Ques Borders (6-2, 205), of Gainesville, Georgia, is the other signee at linebacker.

Joining Necessary as offensive lineman recruits are Corey Walker (6-4, 275) from Duluth, Georgia, and Jae’Darien Warren-Binion (6-3, 255), a recruit from Brooke Point in Middleburg.

The offensive line was a point of emphasis for this year’s recruiting class for the Cavaliers.

“We wanted to upgrade our depth and talent on the offensive line and in the secondary,” said UVA Wise coach Dane Damron.

All-state track star Armani Hoffman (6-1, 195) inked with the Cavaliers at the safety position, where he excelled for Culpepper.

Joining Hoffman in the defensive backfield are Michael King III (6-1, 165) of Lawrenceville, Georgia; Makai McCall (6-4, 200), of Snellville, Georgia; Javion Surles (6-2, 190), of Lincoln, Alabama; and Isaac Thompson (6-1, 170), of Stafford.

Two kickers, another area of importance for the Cavs, signed Wednesday. Yousuf Algburi, of Albermarle, and Kellen Dalton, of Berryville, were both signed.

Also joining the roster of signees are defensive linemen Gavin Ransaw (6-3, 315) of Harvest, Alabama, and Ryan Pryles Jr., of Chesapeake; wide receiver Tyler Kirkess (6-3, 180), of Powell, and quarterback Tyler O’Reilly (6-3, 197), of Herndon.
