KINGSPORT — Keep Kingsport Beautiful is presenting a free series of gardening seminars at the Farmers Market beginning this month.

The seminars are one of many ways KKB fulfills its community education goals, KKB Executive Director Robin Cleary said. The organization also hopes to reach a potential new audience for all of its programs, Cleary said.

“Programs coordinated by KKB directly benefit our quality of life in Kingsport,” Cleary said. “And now these seminars are encouraging folks to beautify our community and grow some of their own food. I am so excited for KKB to be a part of all of the great changes taking place at our Farmers Market. When you attend a seminar or just visit the Farmers Market anytime, look for Kristie Leonard and be sure and tell her what a fantastic job she’s doing. There are lots of great events coming to the market including live music, cooking classes, kids activities and more. She’s been working hard!”

The KKB “Homegrown” gardening series begins Saturday, May 12, with “Gardening 101” at 9 a.m.

The series continues with:

• “Container & Straw Bale Gardening” at noon on May 16.

• “Container & Raised Bed Gardening” at 10:30 a.m. on June 9.

• “Herb Gardening” at 10:30 a.m. on July 21.

• “Winter Gardening” at 9 a.m. on August 11.

• “Composting” at 9 a.m. on September 15.
