KINGSPORT — As of Monday afternoon, authorities were still awaiting autopsy results to identify a man found dead two days prior in the Holston River.

Saturday at about 6:15 p.m., a fisherman made the find and called Kingsport police. The body was located in a stretch of the river adjacent to Ridgefields subdivision.

According to Sullivan County District Attorney General Barry Staubus, detectives could not immediately determine if there were any signs of trauma to the body. Kingsport police report that the person appears to have been an adult male.

The body was sent to the ETSU Quillen College of Medicine for autopsy. The medical examiner will attempt not only to positively identify the man, but also determine a cause of death.

On Monday, Kingsport Police Department Public Information Officer Tom Patton said an investigation is continuing. No additional details were released by police.
