BLOUNTVILLE — A Kingsport man who was shot after allegedly going toward police officers with a knife is now jailed in relation to the incident.

Andrew C. Witt, 27, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of domestic assault. He was indicted earlier this month by a Sullivan County grand jury and booked into jail Wednesday evening.

On April 17, Witt was shot two times by Kingsport police officers responding to a domestic disturbance in Lynn Garden. At a home in the 100 block of Mullins Street, the suspect in that disturbance, Witt, ignored commands from police to drop a knife. When he approached officers with the weapon, they opened fire and shot him in the torso and leg.

Witt was transported to a hospital for treatment of his wounds. Meanwhile, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was asked to look into the incident, as is protocol in officer-involved shootings.

The TBI’s finding were presented to the grand jury, netting Witt’s indictments. He is currently held in the Sullivan County jail on $25,000 bond.
