BLOUNTVILLE — The Sullivan County Commission voted earlier this month to authorize County Mayor Richard Venable to sign a letter of intent regarding the relocation of the Sullivan County Emergency Medical Service station located on Eastman Chemical Company property off Wilcox Drive near Industry Drive.

The move is necessary for the completion of Eastman’s new $75 million headquarters complex, according to the resolution approved by the commission.

Eastman, the city of Kingsport and the Kingsport Economic Development Board will help Sullivan County relocate the EMS station to a new site in the same general area, Venable told county commissioners before the vote.

The commission’s vote authorized Venable to sign a letter of intent with Eastman, the city, and the KEDB to get the ball rolling on the relocation of the EMS station to “a suitable site within the same general area.”

Any negotiated agreement beyond the letter of intent will require additional consideration and approval by the Sullivan County Commission.
