A Kingsport man accused of attacking a pregnant woman with a hatchet, causing injuries that led to the death of her fetus, was arraigned Monday in a Washington County courtroom on a murder charge.

Dominique Marsalis Fleming, 25, 3848 Eastline Drive, was charged with murder and attempted murder after the pregnant woman lost her fetus from a north Johnson City trailer park beating, a prosecutor said. Fleming was captured in Rogersville by the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office deputies and U.S. marshals.

Fleming was arraigned on the charges Monday and attorney Russell Kloosterman was appointed to represent him.

About 10 p.m. Nov. 3, neighbors found the woman suffering severe head injuries from an assault at Big Valley Trailer Park off the Bristol Highway, prompting police to seek the public’s help in the investigation. The woman was taken to Johnson City Medical Center Hospital. Police said the fetus died because of complications from her injuries.
