KINGSPORT — The Kingsport Aquatic Center will begin the first phase of its reopening plan on May 18.

Chassy Smiley, the assistant director of the KAC, explained that beginning on Monday, only the competition pool will be open for lap swimming.

“The plan is if everything goes well and everything looks good with the guidelines, then the goal is by June 1 to have the swim lap lanes open in our new outdoor pool and the warm water pool open, again for lap swimming and individual exercise,” Smiley said. “The kids’ play area and outdoor water park, at this time, are closed until further guidance.”

According to a press release announcing the reopening, beginning Monday the KAC will be operating on the following schedule:

— Monday through Friday: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

— Saturday: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

— Sunday: Closed for deep cleaning.

At the direction of the Sullivan County Regional Health Department, the KAC cannot have more than 10 people in the indoor pool area at any time for lap swim and individual exercise in a lap lane.

Pool time must be reserved in advance by calling (423) 343-9758 to ensure ample pool space and social distancing protocols.

Though not required, all guests are strongly encouraged to wear masks while at the facility unless actively swimming. If you are sick or experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, please stay home.
