William was born in Scott County, VA on April 29, 1938 to the late Lucille (McCracken) and Willruf Wells Bellamy. Along with his parents, two infant sons, David Boyd Bellamy and Billy Randall Bellamy; and his father-in-law, Rev. William H. Jones preceded him in death. Bill attended Cleveland Elementary School in Yuma and graduated from Shoemaker High School in 1955. After working at Scott Printing Company printing the Scott County News, he enlisted in the Navy in 1957 to proudly serve his country. He served aboard the USS Yorktown for 4 years and was extended for 6 additional months due to the Berlin Crisis. This made him the longest serving sailor aboard the USS Yorktown. In 1961 after being honorably discharged from the Navy, he went to work in the boiler room at the Mead Corp. where he spent 38 years before retiring. In his free time, he enjoyed his family, raising a garden and loved sharing his vegetables; working on and restoring his ’50 Oldsmobiles; traveling all over the United States on his Harley Davidson motorcycle with his wife; and faithfully attending church at Higher Ground Baptist Church. One of his favorite things to do was volunteering with the American Legion honoring his fellow veterans.
