William Clayton Allen

KEOKEE, VA - William Clayton Allen, 87, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2019, at his home, surrounded by his family.

He lived most of his life in Keokee, Va.  He worked at his family’s business, Allen’s Grocery, in Appalachia, Va., worked at McDonnell-Douglas in St. Louis, Mo. for several years and was owner/operator of Leisure Lanes Bowling Alley in Big Stone Gap, Va.  Clayton proudly served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War era.  He was of Baptist faith.

Clayton was preceded in death by a great grandchild, Aiden Smith; parents, Phillip and Effie (Hensley) Allen; cousin, who was like a brother, Vernon Allen; and the mother of his two children, Charlotte (Barker) Allen.

Surviving is his wife of 24 years, Watana Allen; two daughters, Stephanie Jervis (Jimmy) of Andover, Va. and Ramona Smith (Earl) of Keokee, Va.; four stepchildren, Kenneth Warfe (Mary), Keokee, Va., Robert Warfe (Krystal), Kingsport, Tn., Marlena Owens (Spencer) and Crystal Zeppa (Eddie), all of Big Stone Gap; nine grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and ten great-great grandchildren; one sister, Wanda Lobiondo (Tom) of Smith, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6pm to 7pm, Friday, December 6, 2019 at Gilliam Funeral Home (618 Wood Avenue, W.) in Big Stone Gap.  A memorial service will follow at 7pm with Rev. Bob Maggard officiating.
