From Rocky Mount to Rogersville, it should come as no surprise that a region that boasts Tennessee’s oldest settlements also hosts a wide variety of historical themed Christmas events.
* Christmas at the Inn: Dec. 8-10 at Netherland Inn, 2144 Netherland Inn Road, Kingsport. Adults, $10; children under 6, free.
The event harkens back to the 1820s when Richard and Margaret Netherland hosted lavish parties complete with beautiful decorations, good food and live music. Christmas at the Inn is Friday and Saturday, Dec. 8-9, from 6-8 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 10, from 2-4 p.m.

The historic 1850s living history farm offers holiday arts, crafts and demonstrations during its annual Christmas in the Country celebration on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

* Colonial Christmas: Dec. 9-10 at the Amis Mill Historic Settlement, 127 W. Bear Hollow Road, Rogersville. $10.
Tour the historic 1780 colonial estate of Thomas Amis. Tours run from 1-5 p.m. both days and are hosted by Wendy Jacobs, the fifth-great-granddaughter of Capt. Thomas Amis.
The original Thomas Amis house, which was built in 1781, will be decorated for Christmas in colonial style, and owners Jake and Wendy Jacobs will be there in period attire to tell the stories of the property.

* Candlelight Christmas Tours: Dec. 1-2; 8-9 at Rocky Mount, 200 Hyder Hill Road, Piney Flats. Adults, $10; kids 5 and older, $8; 5 and under, free.
Join the Cobb Family in celebration of Christmas in the year 1791 with candlelight and decorations as was the custom in the late 18th century before the heavy commercialization we know today. Music, dancing, decorations and sacred tales will all be part of your experience this magical evening.
Tours will begin at 4:30 p.m. each of those days, with new tours leaving about every 15 minutes. The last tour begins at 8 p.m. Tours last about an hour and a half. For more information, call (423) 538-7396.
* Visions of Christmas 1862: Dec. 2 at the Tipton-Haynes State Historic Site, 2620 S. Roan St., Johnson City. Adults, $5; kids 12 and under, $2.50.
Come and enjoy an 1862 rendition of the Haynes family Dec. 2 from 2-6 p.m. You will tour the house and watch as the Haynes family prepares for Christmas and celebrates Sen. Landon Carter Haynes’ birthday.
