WEBER COUNTY — A head-on car crash early Saturday morning on Interstate 15 landed one woman in the hospital and one man booked in jail.

About 12:45 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, a Maserati was driving the wrong way on I-15. The vehicle going south in northbound lanes, according to a press release from the Utah Highway Patrol.

The Maserati hit an Isuzu SUV near the Riverdale Road exit, causing the SUV to flip over the cable barrier into the left-hand shoulder of the southbound lanes, the release says.

The driver of the SUV — who was the only occupant in the car — was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital. She had a shattered pelvis and “severe cuts” to her head, but the injuries were not life-threatening, the release says.

Her current condition was not included in the press release.

Story continues after the photo.

The driver of the Maserati — who police say is Gary Shook, 44 — was the only passenger in the car, and only suffered cuts to his head. Shook was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Once he was released from the hospital’s care, Shook was booked into Weber County Jail on drunk driving-related charges. The release says Shook had been drinking alcohol before getting behind the wheel.

According to booking reports, Shook was booked into jail at 4:08 a.m. Saturday.

Shook later posted $12,850 bail and was released from custody sometime on Saturday.

As of Monday evening, no formal charges have been filed against Shook stemming from the crash.
