South boys capture Three Rivers title with win over Happy Valley

ELIZABETHTON — Cole Layne cut loose for 26 points and Sullivan South earned the Three Rivers Conference championship with a 73-56 win over Happy Valley on Thursday.

The Rebels (11-1 in league play and 24-4 overall) broke open a close game with a 19-4 third-quarter advantage.

Cam Necessary added 13 for South. Happy Valley got 12 points each from Blake Young and Alex Lunceford.

Abingdon 71, Lee High 63

BEN HUR — Chase Hungate scored 21 points to lift the Falcons to a win over Lee High in Mountain 7 District action. Jake Thacker added 20 points, and Evan Ramsey chipped in with 10 points.

Jacob Whitaker was the leading scorer for the Generals with 16 points. Dylan Fannon finished with 15 points, and Logan Grace tallied 12 points and Jaxon Collier finished with 10 points.

Twin Springs 79, Council 56 (Wednesday)

COUNCIL — Christian Hinkle scored 20 points as the Titans went on the road and picked apart Council in a non-district clash. Bradley Owens and Connor Lane each scored 14 points, and Justin Reed finished with 10.

Caleb Stork was the top scorer with 17 points. Caleb Hess tallied 15 points, and Bailey Harris netted 13 points.

Girls

South 49, Happy Valley 33

ELIZABETHTON — Nicole Troutman scored all 14 of her points before halftime and Sullivan South held off Happy Valley 49-33.

The Lady Rebels earned the No. 5 seed for the district tournament with the win. Allie Jordan added 11 points.

Shalyn Whitson totaled 12 points for Happy Valley.
