Wines-led Lady Falcons oust Vikings in 1-AAA play

CHURCH HILL — Volunteer pulled off the first upset of the District 1-AAA tournament.

The Lady Falcons knocked out Tennessee High 24-26, 25-16, 25-15, 25-18 on Monday behind a huge night from Jersey Wines, who dominated with 24 kills and 27 digs.

Emma Green had 21 digs and Rylee Wines totaled 18 assists for Volunteer, which advanced to take on top-seeded Dobyns-Bennett on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

For the Lady Vikings, Riley McCracken had a double-double of 23 assists and 15 digs to lead the Lady Vikings. Kloey Tester had 18 kills and Sydney Freeman had 10.

SCIENCE HILL 3, DAVID CROCKETT 0

CHURCH HILL — The Lady Hilltoppers breezed through their opening match of the 1-AAA tournament, 25-15, 25-17, 25-15 and moved on to face Daniel Boone on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Science Hill spoiled Boone’s chances at the regular-season title last week with a four-set win at home.

DISTRICT 1-AA

SULLIVAN CENTRAL 3, JOHNSON COUNTY 0

BLOUNTVILLE — The Lady Cougars rolled past the Lady Longhorns in their district tournament opener, winning 25-14, 25-12, 25-9 inside the Dickie Warren Dome.

Elaina Vaughan had nine kills, four aces and two blocks, Taylor Wilson recorded five kills and three aces and Cassadi Cotter and Lexi Cyr each had four kills for Sullivan Central. Laiken Hoback tallied 19 assists while Parker Hurd led the defense with six digs.

The Lady Cougars will meet Elizabethton on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. on the semifinal round, also at Central.

SULLIVAN EAST 3, UNICOI COUNTY 0

BLOUNTVILLE — Behind 10 kills from Gracey Byrd and seven from Zoe Johnson, the Lady Patriots took care of the Lady Blue Devils 26-24, 25-14, 25-21.

Ashton Adkins totaled 30 assists with eight digs and Hayley Grubb had a team-high 25 digs for Sullivan East, which will play top-seeded Sullivan South at 6 p.m. on Tuesday inside the Dickie Warren Dome in the first semifinal.

ELIZABETHTON 3, CHUCKEY-DOAK 0

BLOUNTVILLE — The Lady Cyclones swept into the district semifinals, 25-11, 25-9, 25-10.

Kaitlin Bailey had eight kills, and Morgan Smith recorded 10 assists and Josie Lyons added nine for Elizabethton, which will play Sullivan Central on Tuesday in the semifinals. Brittany Kitchens came up with 12 digs and Deanna Hull had 11.

SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA

RIDGEVIEW 3, CASTLEWOOD 1

CLINTWOOD — Haley Mullins powered down 15 kills to lead the Wolfpack to the 25-19, 21-25, 25-13, 27-25 nondistrict win.

Lorin Phipps totaled 24 digs, Kassidy Rasnick had 23 digs with 16 assists, Alyssa Price had a team-best 22 assists and Brooke Frazier came up with 18 digs for Ridgeview.

Hailey Pease contributed a double-double of 10 kills and 11 digs to the winning effort. Frazier also had six aces, and Mullins and Price finished with five apiece.

HONAKER 3, CHILHOWIE 1

CHILHOWIE — Hannah Hess and Abigail Lester knocked down eight kills apiece to lead the Lady Tigers to the four-set road win, 25-22, 25-21, 20-25, 26-24.

Autumn Miller totaled 16 assists and 11 service points and Emma Barton had 15 digs and nine service points for Honaker.
