First-place Lady Spartans take care of Eagles

CLINCHPORT — Eastside’s volleyball team solidified its hold atop the Cumberland District standings Tuesday.

Anna Whited piled up 17 kills, 19 digs and five aces, and Laura Lanteri had 22 digs and six kills to lead the Lady Spartans (14-4, 7-0) to a 25-21, 25-19, 25-12 victory over host Rye Cove.

Eva Roach contributed 13 assists and 11 digs, and Kaleigh Sloan came up with 14 digs and five kills for Rye Cove (8-10, 4-3), which was in second place in the district standings heading into the match.

Ashton Horton totaled six kills, Emily Bishop had 11 digs with seven assists, Makayla Harless had five kills and Emilee Carlson added six digs for the Lady Eagles.

NORTON — The Lady Pioneers sped past the Lady Raiders 25-10, 25-15, 25-8 in a Cumberland matchup.

Savannah Hall compiled whopping eight aces to go with 10 digs and Bella Schwartz had 20 assists for the Lady Pioneers (12-4, 5-2). Talyn Dibrell totaled 12 kills and Tenley Jackson had nine assists in the victory over homestanding Burton (1-11, 0-7).

TWIN SPRINGS 3, CASTLEWOOD 0

NICKELSVILLE — Chloe Gilmer piled up 35 assists and 24 kills to help the Lady Titans (4-12, 4-3) defend their home court in this Cumberland matchup with the Lady Blue Devils (1-14, 1-6).

Twin Springs won 25-10, 25-21, 25-16.

Ryleigh Gillenwater had 24 assists and 17 kills, and Chloe Lane had 22 digs and 16 kills.

GATE CITY 3, RIDGEVIEW 0

GATE CITY — Kaley Jenkins had 22 assists to lead the Lady Blue Devils (12-9, 7-3) to the 25-4, 25-15, 25-14 Mountain 7 District win over the visiting Lady Wolfpack (7-9, 1-8).

Kinslee Hammonds had nine kills with three blocks, Sarah Thompson had nine kills and six digs and Ashley Stanley had five kills, three blocks and eight assists for Gate City, which stayed tied with Union for second place in the district standings.

JOHN BATTLE 3, LEE HIGH 0

BEN HUR — Keelie Pippin had 28 assists and six digs in the Lady Trojans’ 25-12, 25-12, 25-13 Mountain 7 sweep of the Lady Generals (0-14, 0-9).

Logan Leonard recorded 11 kills and Bethany Smith 13 digs for John Battle (9-10, 4-5).
