Eastside volleyball claims Cumberland title, No. 1 seed

COEBURN — The Eastside volleyball team was seemingly in a hurry to lock up the regular season Cumberland District championship.

Anna Whited totaled 23 kills and 17 digs to lead the Lady Spartans to a 25-14, 25-22, 25-12 victory over Thomas Walker on Thursday night.

Tinley Hamilton had 26 assists and eight digs, Laura Lanteri chipped in with 22 digs and seven kills, and Kacie Jones had 20 digs for Eastside, which secured the No. 1 seed for the district tournament.

CASTLEWOOD 3, J.I. BURTON 1

CASTLEWOOD — Adriana Salyer totaled 22 assists and four aces to lead the Lady Blue Devils to a 25-15, 21-25, 25-10, 28-26 Cumberland win over the Lady Raiders.

Janakay Kiser had nine kills and three aces, and Annelise White and Layne Bush each had seven kills and two aces.

RYE COVE 3, TWIN SPRINGS 0

CLINCHPORT — Eva Roach filled the stat sheet with 20 assists, seven service points and four digs in the Lady Eagles’ 25-20, 25-15, 26-24 Cumberland win at home.

Kaleigh Sloan recorded 13 digs and seven kills, and Emily Bishop had 11 service points, four aces, four assists and six digs for Rye Cove.

GATE CITY 3, WISE CENTRAL 0

NORTON — Kaley Jenkins totaled 26 assists, Sarah Thompson had 13 digs and eight kills and the Lady Blue Devils prevailed 25-18, 25-20, 25-13 over the Lady Warriors in a Mountain 7 District matchup.

Aubrie Penley had 15 digs and Lexie Summer 11 for visiting Gate City.

JOHN BATTLE 3, RIDGEVIEW 0

BRISTOL, Va. — Keelie Pippin tallied 25 assists and 12 digs and the Lady Trojans breezed 25-17, 25-14, 25-15 in the Mountain 7 tilt.

Bethany Smith had 20 digs, and Emma Harmon had 11 kills for John Battle.

PATRICK HENRY 3, RURAL RETREAT 0

GLADE SPRING — Avery Maiden recorded 21 assists, seven digs and five aces to lead the Lady Rebels, who eased to a 25-21, 25-14, 25-15 nondistrict victory at home.

Sandy Wright totaled an impressive 12 aces with four digs, and Lauren Stauffer slammed eight kills for Patrick Henry.
