MORRISTOWN — Walters State Community College plans noncredit classes in Motorcycle Rider Education (Basic), Permit to Carry a Firearm and Motorcycle Rider Education (Trike/Can Am) later this month.

The Permit to Carry a Firearm class is Aug. 18 at the Walters State Public Safety Course. The cost is $70 and the class meets 8 a.m.to 5 p.m. This class includes four hours of classroom training and four hours on the range. Students must review and submit a handgun carry permit application before the class starts. This application online at https://dl.safety.tn.gov.

The Motorcycle Rider Education (Basic) is Aug. 25-26. The cost is $235 and the class runs from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. This is the state-certified licensing Motorcycle Rider Education program. Students must be at least 15 years old and must complete a written exam and a riding evaluation before receiving a certificate of completion. This certificate exempts the student from taking the written and riding test when applying for a motorcycle license.

The Motorcycle Rider Education (Rider Trike/Can-Am) class is also Aug. 25-26. The class is $250 but special promotion pricing is available for Can-Am Rider education classes. This class teaches fundamental riding skills and safety strategies for three-wheel vehicles, which require a three-wheel motorcycle license. Satisfactory completion of this test may exempt the student from the written and riding exams when applying for a motorcycle license.
