Alzheimer’s Caregiver Conference: 'You are not alone'

Over 5 million people in the United States have a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and that number continues to rise as the disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. There is no prevention, and no cure.

On Sept. 25, 2018, The Alzheimer’s Regional Resource Center and the Kiwanis Club of Kingsport hosted the fourth annual Alzheimer’s Caregiver Conference at St. Dominic’s Parish Life Center in Kingsport.

Caregivers are the main focus of the conference. Well-known speakers are scheduled each year to share their knowledge of the disease and supportive ideas for those caring for their loved ones. This year’s featured speaker was Jolene Brackey, known for her practical advice and author of “Creating Moments of Joy.”

A large number of vendors from several different communities attend the conference each year and provide excellent resources for those seeking information on Adult Day Services, Home Health, Assisted Living, Long-term Care resources, Hospice and many other important services that are available throughout our region.

The Caregiver Conference is a collaboration of individuals, organizations, companies and educators. Many volunteers work behind the scenes months before the conference and right up until the day of the event. We express our deep gratitude to these volunteers. Without these helping hands, and the support that each one brings, the annual Caregiver Conference would not be successful. For the caregivers who attended the conference this year, our goal was for you to receive new insights and also to understand that YOU ARE NOT ALONE... There is HELP and there is HOPE.
