MORRISTOWN — Walters State Community College will host an Adult Learner Open House 3-7 p.m. March 5 at the college’s main campus in Morristown. Prospectie students can learn about Tennessee Reconnect and get started with admissions and registration for summer or fall semester.

Tennessee Reconnect is a last-dollar scholarship program that allows Tennessee adults who qualify to attend a state community college or Tennessee College of Applied Technology tuition free.

“Walters State has a long history of serving adult learners and we hope to serve many more now that Tennessee Reconnect is available,” said Erin Dean, coordinator of adult learners and advisor with the college’s Student Success Center. “Adult students do very well academically here at Walters State. We know that it’s sometimes difficult to balance work, family and school obligations and we try to do things to help students adjust.”

Representatives will be available to answer questions or provide information about financial aid, counseling and testing, career advising, and admissions.

To receive Tennessee Reconnect, students must be a resident of Tennessee for one year, participate in a college success program, be enrolled in at least six hours leading to a certificate or associate degree, and complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students are ineligible if they have already earned an associate or bachelor’s degree.

The Adult Learner Open House will be held in the R. Jack Fishman Library and refreshments will be served. RSVP at www.ws.edu/rsvp/reconnect.
