Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech will meet in their football season openers in 2024 and 2025, the schools announced Tuesday.

Vanderbilt will host Virginia Tech in the 2024 opener on Aug. 31 at Nissan Stadium, home of the NFL’s Tennessee Titans. The Commodores will visit the Hokies’ Lane Stadium in Blacksburg on Aug. 30 in the 2025 opener.

The teams have not played since 1989, Frank Beamer’s third season coaching the Hokies, when Vanderbilt went to Blacksburg. Virginia Tech won that meeting 18-0 and holds an 6-3 in the all-time series that dates to 1930.

To arrange the home-and-home series with Virginia Tech, Vanderbilt moved two games with Stanford that originally were scheduled for 2024 and 2025 to 2032 in Stanford and 2033 in Nashville.

The addition of the Commodores brings the Hokies’ total of future games against Southeastern Conference opponents to six. Earlier this fall, athletic director Whit Babcock confirmed that Alabama (2034, 2035) and Mississippi (2032, 2037) had both agreed to home-and-home games with Virginia Tech.
