When Charles Maxwell founded American Tours & Charters in 2019, one of his goals was to show people the world in a safe, secure manner punctuated with adventure and excitement. This small family-owned business, based in Kingsport, is geared toward senior travelers who enjoy spending their leisure time exploring the world that lies beyond their horizons.
“We do some church and school outings,” Charles said, “but we primarily focus on cruises and land travel that caters to senior clientele.”
With tours to all parts of the U.S. and Canada and cruises that span the Caribbean, American Tours and Charters provides travelers with a lot of fun and informative excursions about which they have dreamed.
“One of our goals is to allow our people to take their time and thoroughly enjoy the venues that we visit,” Charles explained. “We are different from other tour companies because we take our time and enjoy the scenery along the way. I enjoy adding extras to our trips when time permits.”
This Christian-based company begins every journey with a prayer which also sets this company apart from others. “We are devoted to customer satisfaction, enjoyable trips, and having fun with our newly found friends who share an appetite for exploring the world,” Charles added.
In fact, Charles meets new people wherever he goes and shares news about the Tri-Cities with folks from outside the area. “I’ve met and made a lot of new clients just from sharing about the beauty of our area,” he said proudly. “We’ve had many new friends who really enjoy coming to see the natural beauty of our mountains and lakes on our tours.”
Why does Charles do this type of work? He loves meeting new people and sharing the world through his expertise.
“I’ve been in the charter bus industry for over 20 years,” he said, “so I know where some of the best places to visit are. From travels to Amish country to Canada to Alaska, I can show people the world that lies just beyond our little area here in Tennessee.”
His most enjoyable trip was a 30-day bus trip to Alaska. “We had a wonderful time,” Charles interjected. “We have fun on the bus, people don’t feel rushed, and they get gorgeous pictures that commemorate their journey with us.”
Charles plans to add more cruises to his trip selections in the future. “On a cruise, you can visit various ports of call, enjoy delicious food, and meet people from all over the world. In fact, the food is some of the best that I’ve ever eaten,” he said with a chuckle.
