For me, the 12 Mile Yard Sale is all about the journey. Bumping into friends and chatting. The people watching. Enjoying the sunshine and pretty scenery. Looking at junk.
Lucky bargain hunters with good timing had an opportunity to take home vintage 1960s furnishings from the “12 mile Yard Sale” Saturday in Hawkins County that would have made the set designer on “Mad Men” green with envy.
Hawkins County hosts two big events next Saturday Oct. 6 including the 19th annual 12-Mile Yard Sale on Clinch Valley Road along the northern base of Clinch Mountain; and the 3rd annual American Indian Gathering at the Amis Mill Historic Site near Rogersville.
Every year the first Saturday in October the lonely stretch of 2-lane highway that runs along the north base of Clinch Mountain attracts more than 100 sellers, and thousands of visitors looking for hidden treasure or bargains, or just an excuse to view the fall foliage.
The main advantage of a Rescue Squad truck in Clinch Valley will be cutting down on response time. It can take a half hour for a HCRS team to arrive on the scene on the north side of Clinch Mountain when coming from Rogersville.
